Aliant and Xerox bring augmented reality to tech response teams

Aliant, one of the main integrators and providers of IT services on the Romanian market, and Xerox make the augmented reality solution CareAR, a company recently acquired by the American giant, available to companies and field technicians. Through it, technicians are shown on their tablet or phone, interactively, where the failure of an equipment is and how to solve it. This comes with significant cost, time and above all convenience advantages for consumers and companies, in industries with a major impact on everyday life.

Xerox's CareAR solution is intended for teams that go into the field to solve various technical problems, such as technicians installing IT equipment, GSM antennas, medical equipment, doing site maintenance, in industries such as telecommunications, healthcare, energy, logistics and distribution, manufacturing or even retail through online deliveries. Specifically, the expanded CareAR platform will support field workers with the augmented reality visual tools and access to data needed to provide fast and efficient resolution of encountered situations, ensuring high-quality service and experience to end customers, as well as a reduction in related operating costs.

"The CareAR solution is now included in Aliant's "Digital Transformation & Automation" portfolio, which includes, among others, RPA, Chatbots and AR solutions. Augmented reality is a proven technology in business and already has clear utility and time-proven impact, and its implementation can be done in a transparent and fast way. AR technology comes with strong competitive advantages, which we want to make available to our customers to be tried and integrated in the real environment. There are numerous applications and we have very interesting discussions and exchanges of ideas with customers from different industries about how CareAR can bring value to the entire business chain, up to the end customer and at the same time optimize time and costs," said Bogdan Ciubotaru, Managing Partner Ally.

"CareAR will define and develop the Service Experience Management market segment, challenging industries to change at a time when change is needed. The Romanian market is at the unique point of development where existing industries demand intensive services, with real-time instructions, visual tools and much simpler access to data for any user, all managed by predictive artificial intelligence. At Xerox we have always been concerned with our customer's service experience, which is why it was so easy and natural for us to acquire and implement this technology. Our visual platform based on Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence uniquely positions us to generate exceptional experiences and results for customers, with them at the center of everything we do," said Florina Sereș, General Manager Xerox Romania.

The technology behind the new CareAR® platform is augmented reality and AI, allowing service technicians to leverage the knowledge of more experienced colleagues through live, AR-assisted training.

The benefits of using CareAR technology consist in faster resolution of on-site interventions, lower costs with installation, maintenance, and remediation of technical problems. The technical consultant who needs to solve a complex problem with a piece of equipment and does not have all the necessary experience or identifies a situation that requires an elaborate troubleshooting plan, through CareAR, opens the mobile phone, tablet or VR glasses and gives access to a senior colleague who is at the headquarters. He sees the problem in real time, can make annotations, circle on the screen, underline, write, very clearly and easily indicating to the person on the ground what he has to do. Thus, the problem can be solved on the spot, without additional discussions on the phone, by e-mail or without the need for a new trip to the customer.

Another advanced feature of CareAR involves 3D modeling of the equipment and viewing it on the phone. Through AR animations, basically a 3D tutorial, the user can look at the equipment, through the phone or tablet, and see the steps to follow, which button to press, how to open a drawer or lid, etc.
